Princess Diana: Ford Escort £52k at auction

Post by mab01uk »

"A car given to Princess Diana as an engagement present has been sold at auction for more than £52,000.
The owner of the 1981 Ford Escort Ghia kept its origin a secret for 20 years.
The car, listed at Reeman Dansie's Royalty, Antiques and Fine Art Sale in Essex, was sold to a phone bidder at a hammer price of £47,000, exceeding its pre-auction estimate of £30k-£40k. It has its original registration, 83,000 miles (133,575km) on the clock, original paintwork and upholstery."

When I worked at the local Ford dealer years ago, I transported this car by trailer and put it on display in the town centre on a DR Barnados stand . It was on site at our dealership for a month, and they entrusted this teenager to ferry it about! Must have been 87-88 maybe.

I don't there is any debate about the Black Turbo that was Diana's. I know the owner and have seen both car and documentation, and know who restored it. The picture on that web page was taken the same day as my car was photographed for the accompanying article in the same magazine btw.
