Early days yet, but, yes, we are hoping to attend.

Re: Early Lotus Seven
How is Robb progressing with his 7, and is he going to be around when the southerners are at Crieff in about a week.
Tom, my car has been on RR now so I’m hoping that she’s fit to get to Crieff…… but will she get back this time in one piece?!

Robb is progressing well though it wont be ready for Crieff but LMC is still a possibility. He will be at Crieff. My 7 has just been on a rolling road too and gained 3.55 bhp

C'mon Robin, need some stats, what bhp are you getting? My virtually standard Midget 1330 is giving 55bhp at the wheels which I am quite happy with. No need to fit the new motor quite yet though it is built.

Re: Early Lotus Seven
As you know torque is what it is about, very little tweaked on the RR, I used very similar settings to the previous and similar spec engine although now 1360 rather than 1380. So flywheel peak of 107 bhp but with a good spread of torque max of 96ft/lb. Figures are just for bragging and can’t compare with the previous RR, but Steve at Tipton said it was stronger than a smart looking 649 cammed mini that they had just RR with similar carbs etc. Main thing it pulls strongly across the range but surprisingly peak torque and power are about 1K higher than previous engine, it’s a bit more lumpy at the bottom end than your new engine will be! See you soon.

Re: Early Lotus Seven
I believe I'll get the call any day to go round and help turn the chassis the right way up. The new floor is in and has perfect rolled wired edges all sorted and a LOT of rivets!
Once it's flipped over it really is a case of bolting it all together, then the fiddly bits like exhaust to make up and the really scary bit of fitting the original S1 nosecone to the bonnet to the scuttle panel. That's proper measure Trice, then again, and one to be sure, then cut, But stop just before the cut to be REALLY sure, then cut, then dress the edges. Not scary at all! It's not like it's a Unicorn dropping original S1 panel that costs more than a couple of pints......
I know he was fairly confident about LMC, hence we missed Blyton so he could get cracking on as he wants a few miles on it before driving it to France from Edinburgh for some reason? The M6 was built to run in old engines, wasn't it?????

Al, the new floor is indeed stunning and probably finished now, great pity few will see it - hopefully.Pandora wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 10:46 pm I believe I'll get the call any day to go round and help turn the chassis the right way up. I'm going to LMC after following my late father's route from Gosport through Normandy after landing on D Day + 1 as part of the RE Bomb Disposal team, not in a classic Mini but will be "campervanman" with the LeMans Classic group on the Blue Nord camp site. Pm me for mobile number to meet up.

Re: Early Lotus Seven
Well, Did Rob make it to LMC?
Would be great to hear an update.
As for mine, I got the new engine in a few weeks ago now & it is running like a dream. Was clocked at 96 at the wheels, so pretty much exactly what I was after.
