It will be interesting to see just how crusty that surf blue S was. I've set my SKY box to record it.

By the way, I got UPR 65 from Mathewsons showroom in 2008. I've brought 6 other Minis since then!!!!!

I bought my Thames Dormobile from them about the time this was being filmed, and it had sat there for a year so hoping to spot it in the background. How sad am I!?

I suspect we’ll never get to know. Sure I read somewhere he had successfully got a V5C which will probably mean a re- shell.

Quote below was posted by the producer of B&C on TMF (The Mini Forum) today:-

"Hi, I am the producer of B&C and thank you for the kind comments about the show, no ‘histrionics of false deadlines’ - I cannot imagine what you mean We are trying to make an authentic show that’s true to car people as well as the cars.
We will be following up on the Mk 1 and I know it is going to be very well restored, but it is going to take a long time.
It’s early days for the series as last night was ep 1 of 10 and the channel need to see how series 1 goes- but the follow up will be in a ‘special’ with no transmission date as yet."

What did the buyer get for £18K plus premium. The shell was shot, the engine seemed to be a complete rust bucket, how much of the original car will there be after restoration? I know the new owner has the original title to the car with the V5 , is this alone worth the price? The restoration costs could be in the region of £25K, the buyer must be desperate to own a Mk1 S.

It's nothing to do with money.

It's someone with lots of it wanting to bring a dead Cooper S back to life. The excitement of bidding and winning, stripping it down, locating the bits and then either rebuilding the shell HOY style, or paying someone else to do it.

Though the end result is often the same, a restored car with real provenance that's started from an original project is what some people prefer to spend their time and money on. I totally get that as opposed to one that they buy fully restored with possibly no history or that later turns out to have skeletons in it's closet. That's worth alot to some people, and no doubt nothing to others.
