Looking closely at the sold one, there are a couple of issues I have with it.

1) The strange bubbling to the front. I have never seen this on an original badge

2) Look at the uneven appearance of the edges of the letters. I reckon they have been etched away by something.

3) I don't like the colour of the metal it is very Copper coloured. Original badges should ranging from a Dark Yellowy straw colour through to a dark brown / black colour when very tarnished.

Overall, I'd bet my balls on the sold one being a modern repro that has been artificially aged using chemicals, heat or more likely both.

The other one I referred to above is without a shadow of a doubt 100% original & a cracking example too. I only hope that the new owner doesn't try & restore it.

my guess is the one above has had very little done to it since it came out the etching tank.

When that was is anybody's guess.

Several of the Yimkin ones I made looked very similar straight out the bath, with that mottled effect in places.

I was also very unsure if this was the real thing.
Comparing this one with the two originals of
mine made the alarm bells ring.

Kees.

That really is a nice car. Reminds me of the red one you built into a race car years ago.

Shame they fitted a Morris Minor SU pump onto the bulkhead instead of a mini one under the rear subframe. Otherwise a nice car.

Also looks like it's had a "hit" in the front end but it's 59 years old and shit

happens. Still a great car.
