MK1 Mini Moke

Right chaps, here we go again..
First as I’m sure you will have seen I’ve already built a MK1 mini moke viewtopic.php?f=6&t=23717 this project got carried away!

There was a new body ( https://mokepanels.com/ ) this was excellent and the way forward the old one was to far gone. The engine a 970S from SMMC rod and Simon did a perfect job etc etc..

why did I sell it? I went to a local car show, a chap put his grandchild in it to play! We had a chat and he knew I was less than impressed after that I didn’t want to leave it parked anywhere. Other reasons Mrs wife wasn’t keen no heater or roof, the main reason I like building cars not driving them! I was very upset to see the last moke leave but I had to sell it while it was mint or keep it forever..

So why build another one? My plan is to build a scruffy moke, one I can leave outside the pub and the kids can climb on..also on a sensible budget! This will be a slower build as I’m also on my MK1 SLD that’s another story..ah and new garage..

I’ve purchased this one from a forum member the body needs a full restoration so for many reasons I’ve handed that job to Paul wiginton I’ve known Paul for over 20 years, he’s in the next village.
Paul is the clever chap behind the wiginton mini sprint.

The shell is with Paul, I’ve had a few bits delivered from moke panels!

I hear what you are saying, but once you start it is difficult to do a second rate job on something, simply so that you don't find it so precious?

At least that is what I've found

I couldn't agree more Andy! Exactly the problem I've always had. The classic cars I've used and enjoyed the most have generally been ones which I bought in reasonable condition and simply used, maintained and driven. Immaculately restored cars have always tended to stay in the garage, not get driven and eventually sold
It is very hard to restore a car to a less than perfect state.

This is going to be a fun project and I'm looking forward to getting some progress done on the metal work.
As with all my restoration projects it will be repaired to a high standard. Dave has told me that it will be a "not so precious" car as the last one he built but I simply can't help myself from doing the best I can, so the shell at least will be up to scratch which will give the option to use it as an often as possible driver and could then potentially at a later date or by a new owner be refitted to a high standard

I remember being at the NEC Show a couple of years ago looking at a Moke on display & unknown youngsters saw the Moke as somewhere to play ..they were chased off by the Moke Owner when the trafficator switch was getting a hard time .. moments later a pair of Adults arrived to sit on the side of the Moke "just for a rest"
This general type of none respect by the Public is a unfortunate hazzard to be expected of any Moke Ownership.

Everybody that I’ve spoken to says I can’t build a scruffy car and there probably right
At work we did win the pebble beach preservation award a few years ago!
We always say build a fresh car and it needs a 1000 mile Mille miglia to calm it down..
The answer is for me to build another nice car and then use it and enjoy it!

Some strange floor pan repair on that tub!

What you need is a scruffy but sound example that you mechanically restore but leave the cosmetics, quite popular in the classic Landrover scene where patina is better thought of than immaculate paintwork.
I quite fancy a series Landrover like that myself (and an immaculately restored Series 2A to go with it! )

I popped down to see Leo at moke panels last week to pick up a few bits for my latest moke restoration.
I’ve started sorting out parts but not much to update the thread with at the moment.

It’s unbelievable to think I picked up my new moke shell for my last project from the nec this time last year!

Kitofbits, When I saw you at Chateau Impney, I listened to you tell me all the sensible reasons you had decided to sell your Moke & I said that once you have been bitten by the Moke bug it was difficult to shake off

I am very pleased that you have decided to scratch that itch once again!!

I love my tatty Moke, its never really been restored, but being a very early Aussie little wheeler it has very little rot either. The best of all worlds.

Mark your right I looked at your moke at blyton a couple of years ago and it’s spot on.
I really didn’t want to sell my last one but it needed a new owner for many reasons.
I am moving on with my mk1 mini I’ve owned for many years SMMC are doing the modified S engine and the body’s almost ready for paint.
The moke is wiggys fill in job so there’s no rush but yes I have the moke bug! (Even if Mrs wife doesn’t like them!)

I see your old Moke's original body has popped up on Ebay as the repairable spare alongside an absolutely rotten '66 one.

Is the seller (Appendix-K) on here, or the fella that snaps things up and then re-lists them very quickly? (no harm in that)

hi old australian advertizing slogan moking is not a wealth hazzard but maybe restoring mokes is a wealth hazzard one good thing is there is not as many panels to replace
