You could be correct Graeme, this is all a bit too modern for me
If that is the case, we need an A+ 1275 primary gear as well as an A+ idler.
Dad has a DAM5626 box on an A+ Mini block (99H 997P) that he is thinking of using in his VDP1300, as the car would have been a rod change car if it was built as a manual originally.
The transfer housing he has looks to be one for a pre engaged starter ?
I should be able to help with the gears and shims, although the primary will no doubt need a re-bush
There should be no real difference in the housings as far as the starter is concerned - they're interchangeable.
An injection housing would have an additional small hole for the flywheel position sensor though
It has an additional threaded hole and slightly different casting shape at the front of the curve of the starter section. The cover however is the same shape as standard and does not pick upon this additional threaded hole I'll take a picture of it tomorrow .
Until we get the engine off the box and inspect the gears, this isn't a definite way forward. If the box is junk, we will look for a more 'correct' rod change box.

the weak spot on these A+ gearboxes is the double row mainshaft bearing , which has shorter outer casing than earlier bearings... make sure you replace it in case you use the gearbox.
Personally i don't like the gear ratios... with bigger gap between 1st and 2nd gear.. should be fine in a VDP cruiser though
