Looking to borrow / loan any close ratio 3 synchro helical gears for a future project. These don't need to be mint, and are only needed as a reference. They will be returned in the same condition as received.

Can anyone help out in the search.

Unfortunately I lent my box of gearbox parts to an ex friend some years ago who systematically looted every gear that was worth having. This included a complete C/R Helical kit

I didn’t realise they did a close ratio 3 synchro helical box. Are you talking about the 998/S one?

I’ve got the box off my 998 Cooper

There was a C/R helical box offered as an option from the factory.

Is there an easy way to identify one? I’ve got a few gearboxes

How interesting it is for this topic to showup. I recently received from a friend a trashed Mini box that blew its idler gear bearing and took the case with it. It was the 68 case. I got it for the parts on the box. It had the internal gears and I could not identify them from the info I had available. Finally, I looked in the Special Tuning Mini Cooper brochure and lo and behold I found out what they were. They are the c/r helical cut gear set as Mark alluded to. The gears are in very usable condition but alas the laygear is missing. The part number is C-22G 210 and the tooth count is 24, 21, 17, 13. It would be amazing to find one of these, so if anyone can help....

Back to Marks question, I am willing to help if just the gears I have would help with your project. However I am in the States.

Thanks for the offer Chris.

I think I'd be better to try & find one on this side of the pond.

Still, good to know that the DO exist

The CR helical cut laygear hasn't been available from BMC for over 50 years, so good luck finding NOS.

What would be the lay gear numbers to look for Mark?

Does this look like what you are looking for as I think they are a new CR set?

I also have piles of old bits but all in great disarray so would need to be looking closely for exactly what I needed... and I am not that clever mate ;-)

Andy, most 3 syn laygears have a number stamped on them so start by looking for that. It should be 22G210. Alternatively count the teeth on the input gear, it should have 23 ! which makes it massive.
