Forum rules

PLEASE NOTE! Postings in this section are deleted automatically after they have not been looked at for 30 days.

1) This section is for advertising items that you have for sale.

2) If you have items for sale on ebay, please post them in the appropriate section. This section is NOT for the advertisement of your ebay auctions.

3) If you have a number of items to sell, post them in a single ad marked "Multiple Parts" or similar. DO NOT post many individual advertisements as this forces everyone else's listings down the page.

4) It is expected that any items advertised on the forum are described fairly & honestly. It is the duty of the seller to ensure that this is the case.

5) Items listed for sale should wherever possible be offered with a purchase price, not asking for bids from members. If you wish to auction your item to the highest bidder I would suggest you use ebay & pay the associated fees.

6) If I consider any postings in this section to violate either the spirit or word of these simple requests I reserve the right to delete any posts without prior warning or explanation.

7) This section is offered as a free service to enthusiasts. Any deals made are between the buyer & seller only. The MK1 forum takes no part in any transaction & the appearance of any item in this section is not a recommendation. I strongly suggest that both buyers & sellers are happy to proceed with a deal before any money or goods change hands.

8) The advertising of or soliciting for VIN tags, log books or any other vehicle identification documentation without it's associated vehicle is expressly forbidden.

9) The posting of items for sale on the MK1 forum constitutes explicit acceptance of these simple rules.

(10) It is STRONGLY recommended that when paying with Paypal people DO NOT use the "Pay friends" service. This has no buyer protection & if there is an issue you will NOT be able to reclaim your lost money.

I think I read somewhere that USA export cars were shipped without headlights and batteries fitted, leaving it to the local dealer to source and fit prior to sale. Maybe BMC couldn't source LHD (right dipping) headlamps from Lucas UK?

That would seem to be hearsay. There are videos of Jaguars and Triumph sports cars being shipped to the US with headlight units fitted, along with the many cars BMC shipped to Europe and beyond which were LHD.

I don't see why there should have been any special cause for a Mini going to the US.

I doubt that the dock workers would have liked moving cars without batteries either.
Having stood on Baltimore car dock (reflashing Jaguar engine and transmission software) I can tell you it is a huge place and in the middle of February, colder than a cats ass in a blizzard.

Sort of hearsay! My uncle had a BMC dealership here......the minis arrived with Lucas headlamps but the shop had to install sealed beams to satisfy the regulations. I still have some of those original bulb style Lucas units.... (he never threw anything away LOL!)
The Jags did have batteries but were changed out as soon as they arrived as they were useless here in winter.....

Thanks for the lesson! All of the Minis I have seen/worked on, have had the dual filament signal/side lights, so I have never actually seen the window type bulbs.

Well, you must have missed the earlier ones...they did have bulbs here...my 62 Elf has the original Lucas 700 bulb type lamps.....not sure of the change over...must have been around 63/64 ish …..as my 64 1071 has sealed beams.
The Elf had a separate side lamp under the headlamps.
Cheers

My 62 and 62 both have Lucas sealed beams in them, although in the boxes of stuff, there are some lamps with the separate bulbs. No sidelamps though. I will have to look closer at my 59 Thames and see what it has, I know they are Lucas, but I haven't look at them any closer than that.
