1963 basket case 1970s rally car

Post by AndyB72 »

Bought this project at the weekend. It has been at the bottom of a mates neighbours garden for several years under a cover. I've known of its existence for two years but always understood it was a 70s car and never really had the time to take a closer look, that is until I received a message from my mate last week saying the guy wanted it out of the way as he was looking to rent the house out and it was a 1963 car! Its a two owner from new car (the seller and his dad before him) they did quite a few minor rallies in it in the 70s with an 850 engine and then a 1300 on drums! The shell is in a serious state, big blisters on the roof, no front panel or sills and the gutter is missing in several places. Until I get it back I won't know if its scrap or not, but its not looking good. I won't be starting work on it for a long while until I've finished the COX but thought I'd stick some photos up here for starters. Looking to bring it home in a month or so...

I think the answer is right in front of the car. The wheelbarrow should do it.... :D :D :D

A real shame it has been allowed to get so crispy. You know there is somewhere for you to store the remains if needs be.

The sticker Guy probably only needs the image in a graphics format then he just makes it whatever size!!

Couldn't agree more. All they do is ensure that the car is maintained in a foisty, warm environment constantly. If the wind had been allowed to blow around it, it wouldn't have been 1/2 as bad.

I finally managed to get over with a mates truck and trailer on Friday to collect the car and parts. We started at 7am and drove away 10 hours later! The car is now over at my parents for my nephew to 'play with' over the last few weeks of the school holidays. I'll take some photos of the car, or what little is left of it, later this week...

Piece a piss.
Keep the restoration simple. Cut and polish and wait till the young fella is old enough to dirve it.

I reckon if Olly works through that from front to back he would be ready to this when he's finished.

Wow there's some serious detail in that!!

Oliver is a bit like me, he like taking stuff to bits but not so keen on sitting down and cleaning stuff up.

Called up to sort the logbook last night and pickup his photo album to scan/copy. Here are some snaps when he bought the car from his dad in the early 70s and a few during the mid/late 70s. Got to love those Cibies!!!!

Note 1300 rad and Escort sump guard.
