Hi.

My name is Kees Plugboer and lives in the centre of the Netherlands ( 't Gooi ).
I am 55 years old and still driving the classic Mini from my 19th year.
There where lots of types pasing in those years, on this moment there is only one left.
It is a 1999 Downton Sport40 lookalike, still looking for a original Mk1 to make it the way I like.

I collect woodrim steering wheels and DOWNTON things I like. :D

Cheers

Only just seen this old thread. Great to be able to be able to see behind the names we see. Nothing you need to know about me. Born at a young age, mech engineer and live in Abingdon the ancestral home of MG cars and '...the works'. Loved Mini's since my brother bought a tweed grey S in 65

Thanks for resurrecting this once popular thread Kit of Bits.

Not a lot has changed on my entry other than being a few years older & the list of cars & projects has increased a little.

Excellent thread.

Malcolm Milne, 50 years young and living in sunny Aberdeenshire in the NE of Scotland. I spent 15 years in the motor trade and since then have worked mostly in the oil and gas industry.

When I was very young my mum had an early hydrolastic Clubman in Antelope beige (OAV 464H), followed by a 1978 Vermillion mini 1000 that got a hard time from me after I passed my test. My first mini was a £20 purchase when I was 14. It was a Bronze Yellow 1970 mini 1000 for me to fiddle about with and was replaced a couple of years later by a 1966 998 Morris Cooper (£230!). I got that on the road in around 1986 and learned a lot about how not to repair cars. It was still on the DVLA database last time I looked (GFS 982D). I bought a standard, Tahiti blue 1976 mini 1000 in the late 80s which evolved through being a road-going hillclimber to a competitive tarmac rally car, but unfortunately met its end a single venue rally at Prestwick airport in 1991 (search YouTube for “rally Mini crash roll” – it’ll be the first hit). Thereafter I built a Vauxhall Nova 1300 rally car, coming 4th overall in the 1993 Scottish Tarmac Rally Championship and have had Novas since. For the last 20 years I’ve owned and competed in a 1600cc, ex-circuit racing Nova in hillclimbs and sprints.
However, 10 years ago it was time for a mini again and I purchased a local, 1970 aqua Clubman which has been with me ever since – receiving upgrades along the way (now 1380) and a bare shell rebuild last year. I’ve taken it to Switzerland 3 times for the Ollon-Villars historic hillclimb (8km per run on closed roads) and this year came down for a fabulous day at Blyton where I met a few of you guys and was also thrilled to come away with a trophy for “Best Mini”.

This is, without doubt, the best informed forum out there with an incredible depth of knowledge among the contributors. Long may it continue.

I think I first saw it at Bo'Ness a couple of years ago and couldn't believe how quick that man's Mum's mini went!

I love how standard it looks. It's ace!

You at Bo'ness again this year?

Al

Yup, it was at Bo'ness in 2008 (998) 2009 & 2010 (1293). I've been trying to get back to there ever since but life keeps getting in the way. I had an entry in for this year but have withdrawn it as my wife and I are having our first child-free holiday in 8 years, getting back the day before. It would have been possible to do it, but we're away again the following weekend as our wee boy has an entry in the pedal car race at Goodwood Revival again, so we decided enough's enough. I'll hope to be at Bo'ness next year, though.

I was out with it at Alford sprint this weekend (class win) and intend to be at Boyndie sprint at the end of September, maybe in the mini, maybe in the Nova, or maybe I'll take one each day...
