Old photo below seen on TMF and thought it worth sharing here......
http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/to ... asy-is-it/

Someone had asked for advice on transporting a Mini shell using a modern Mercedes pickup truck....

KTS replied saying: "i know you can put a bare saloon shell onto a mk3 Cortina estate roof rack to move it."

Response: "Pictures or it didnt happen"

KTS: .."here you go - the Cortina was affectionately known as 'the beast", so this combo became 'the beast with two backs',
got quite a few odd looks driving through St Albans with that strapped to the roof. handling was atrocious. The Cortina rolled like a boat anyway and with the shell on the roof it felt like it was going turn turtle every time you changed direction (..roundabouts were particularly traumatic..).
didn't help that no-one else would get in the car with me for the drive over - they preferred the option of a 'chase' car (..i suspect for reasons of deniability..). Didn't help my nerves that everytime i checked my mirrors, my so called 'support' team were ***** themselves laughing."

  Brilliant

I thought we were bad transporting a Mini shell using a couple of 3x3’s across the top of the buck on a Mazda B2000. Got a few funny looks on the A11.

I’ll post a pic up later on.

OI!

mind you, the time i took 4 x steel bar security grilles home on the roof rack fitted to my minisprint was pretty scary!

it did have a serious affect on the cornering and roundabouts had to be taken with care
