MK2 colour

Post by cpr1 »

Hi,
An Italian friend has a English built 68 MK 850 Mini , he woul like to know what colour they used, it looks like OEW, can someone point him in the right direction as he would like to restore it in original colour, he has not any colour details on the logbook.
Thanks.

There were 2 OEW. One was used on Morris Minor wheels and is very creamy and the other was generally used as body colour on Minis etc.

Some 'strange' stuff went on in early 68 paint wise , I have a Tweed grey with snowberry white roof MK 2 998 Cooper ,a colour combination which should never have been available on a MK 2 Cooper ,but when I got the heritage cert and followed up with Gaydon it looks like it was the last one of 15 painted in that colour combo that day . so it could be OEW or indeed the correct MK2 Snowberry white , get a heritage cert to be sure G

He likes the Almond green colour and is considering it, were MK2 painted in Almond green, and if yes what colour was the interior?
Thanks for your feedback, I have directed him on this forum but he does not undertsand English, and would love to get the car ready for IMM.

Almond green, same roof and black interior as a general rule, But like all things early and late Mk2, never say never! Make sure that you tell him that while HE might like a colour change, 90% of future buyers want original and standard. Keep to what the factory/heritage cert says. Just my opinion.

Thank you Peter, told him about that. For me it would make no difference since it is being restored so strictly speaking no longer original factory. By the look of it he really likes the Almond green, But I think it was not available on mk2's or was it?

Almond green was definitely available on all Mk2 models, as for the interiors, Coopers were generally black (but a few early cars had coloured interiors), but 'plain' Mk2 850 and 1000 saloons had satin beige trim, with arancia beige carpets. Info from Lindsay Porter's Mini restoration book, first published in 1984.
