My brothers Police Minivan above being used on location in Muswell Hill, London for the filming of 'Des' the new 3-Part ITV drama about serial killer Dennis Nilsen. David Tennant plays Nilsen also known as the 'Muswell Hill Murderer' in the three-part ITV series which will follow his trial. Des will air on ITV over 3 nights from 9pm tonight 14/9/20. The film company had the Minivan for a couple of weeks so it will be interesting to see if/when it appears on screen.....

Nice Minivan. It's always a buzz seeing cars you know on TV :D

I watched this last night, it was quite interesting. A mate of mine lived 2 doors down from the scene of the crime back when it all kicked off.

Not the sort of neighbour you'd want living near you.

Does look a nice van - it must be a great feeling to see if on TV. I bet when its on screen he'll be watching closely to see how it is treated!

I do wonder where it will be used though - it doesn't seem to fit the time frame of the events.
I can't quite make out the reg, is it on a P suffix so 75/76 where the discovery of what Nillsen had done was '83. Would the Met have been using 7 yr old Minivans at that point?

I think TV productions often fit their own unissued registration plates to suit the era if the plates are on camera, easy with Minivans as they did not change much over the years to the untrained eye. My brother was quite worried when it was taken away on a trailer for 2 weeks to the TV production locations in London but it eventually returned undamaged.

Clearer photo above of the Police Minivan....it has South Wales Police history which only came to light when applying to DVLA for details of the previous owners (when you could still apply for the owner history).....and then the various holes found in the roof and dash areas matched up.
PolicecarUK only know of one other surviving Police Minivan both have now been featured in Miniworld magazine.

Hopefully it will appear in one of the episodes of Des and has not ended up on the cutting room floor!

Apparently the mini van I am restoring at the moment is an ex London police van. 1972 in black, It had a radio antenna on the rear c pillar above the light, ammeter gauge on the dash rail, 3 interior lights, and a 3rd sun visor. Nothing mental and couldn't find anymore info on it, but the previous owner had owned it since the 80's and was certain it was...
