Hi Mick,
Definitely looks like the race Mini you bought in the 1980's to me, I took that photo along with the others posted in that thread in the paddock at Silverstone back in April 1981 but afraid I can't tell you anything more about the car. At that time I was usually at race meetings with my brother Steve Bell & Chris Tyrrell as part of the Mini Se7en/Mini Miglia/Metro Challenge events. If we can find a copy of the race programme for Silverstone in April 1981 it would give you the driver details from the race number and maybe find out more about the cars previous history.

1980's Mini Racing Photos:-

Once you have the drivers name it would also be worth asking for any info on the Ten-Tenths Motorsport History forum in the similar 1980's Mini racing thread I started on there:-

Martin.
It would be handy to find the history of it.

I bought it from a garage at Bury nr Manchester and seemed to remember it having a 8 port head on it but engine price was too much for what I wanted for a road car.

my photo has the shell with the reg SDB 419J which came from a junk mini.

Checking Tax for it shows it needed taxing from nov 83 but i used it daily until sept 84 when we trailered it down here to Norfolk from Leeds and never used it again..

just thinking last night what cars ive owned .Not maybe in correct order .

1st car almond green mini bought 65 ish know I had it when england won world cup.

morris minor fitted with 1275 sprite/midget engine.

MGB soft top .

The black mini ex rally car .

Escort Mexico.

Jaguar E type 4.2 Reg YYG 2G nothing but problems withit .timing gear vernier teeth sheared one day down south and bent all valves.lethal in wet on cross ply tyres..didnt seem to matter how much you did on it something else would go the week after.finished up selling it for £600 fool I know now.

Mk11 lotus Cortina.

Mk 1 Capri 3.0 fitted rally cam & IDA carb .

Big yank pick up Ford Ranchero reg BPV 1T 5.7ltr .

Fiat 131 TC used mainly by wife.

I used the red mini.

Came to live/work in norfolk and drove car supplied by Peugeot dealer in 1984 and have only driven them since .

Set up my own garage in norfolk specialising in repair of Peugeot cars in 1986 until packed it in about 2005.
