The pic takes me back....I had a red mk1 ….. BUE 38Y in 1990. It threw a rod through the side due to a stretched / snapped big end bolt wrecking the block and gearbox. I built a replacement unit on a tight budget using bits I had....1330cc, 285cam...3.1 diff and it went really well. Pity the floor rotted out of it !
My Dad had a white mk2 at the same time......C281 PNP :)

I had loads of these when I started driving in the 90's, several 998 Mk1s' and a 1300L that's probably still one of the most reliable things I've owned (says a lot about my dailies  ).
I 'accidently' bought a Mk1 City Special at an auction a few years ago, 16K from new, spare wheels never been used finished in Clove brown 8-) . I like it but the mrs is not a fan :D

I had an MG Metro back in the mid 90's, same red as the one pictured , reg no A321YOJ. Completely rebuilt it bodily and engine.

I bought genuine side stripes from the local agents at the time. It was my first experience of applying sticky stripes using a water/washing up liquid solution. Seemed a really odd thing to do but worked well.

Worst thing was getting the air bubbles out. Have a pin ready to burst them if necessary !
