Carpet decision time

Post by 360gts »

Need to order a few sets of carpets for my projects...

Anyone found a grey carpet that is close to the cumulus grey wool as fitted to the 64/65 S.
Also, need a red set of wool style for a 64...…..

There are so many different reds available....like to hear who has the closest item.

Still not tried to fit my newton one - I think they've improved the colour match.

Not sure about the new Newton, but wasn't the consensus that the BAS was about as close as we are going to get? I've been paying attention because eventually I am going to have to get a good wool replacement because that is what I should have instead of the Veltone currently in the car. The carpet daibos was selling also got really good reviews if I an recalling correctly (I think there was some discussion about it being same source as BAS).

Bought the Newton set for my MK 2 in black. I thought it was a complete waste of money, very disappointed with the fit. To get it right, quite a bit of trimming needed. Would not recommend for the price.

As I posted in that thread, the BAS Veltone carpets are extremely close to the original carpets (mid-60s), but it's quite expensive.

Not sure that Veltone would be correct for a '64 ? But if so, it's worth the cost if you're doing a correct restoration.

I was going to get that for my 1071, but then found a scrap of original carpet and it wasn't veltone. When did veltone come in as it is later than Dermot's car isn't it?

I have a complete set of that 90s BMC stuff here for my other 64 car, so will take some side by side shots over the weekend if the weather holds off for 10 minutes!

Cumulus Grey wool changed to Veltone Nov 65
Red wool changed to Veltone Dec 65.
My 1275 65 was built a few weeks before the change so it will need the wool carpet.
The 970 and the 1071 will also need the wool carpets.
I have some original Cumulus grey carpet...none of the samples I have is a good match.
The red samples are pretty close to some of the original that came from the 1071.
