What ever happened to the poster on this forum who said he could make alloy bonnets , boots and doors . Didn't he start with some of the small brackets etc but didn't get any further ... ken

That was Matt Tupman, I think he was dissuaded from proceeding any further by the Heritage boot lid.

Problem is you've got no idea what the winning bidder was prepared to pay for it.
I guess it's either got to be fitted with bonnet pins or fitted to a steel inner frame.

Ha, ha, I know that :)

There were some with alloy inners too, but they are very, very rare. Still I reckon it went for a reasonable price.

I was extremely lucky then to pick up a full alloy bonnet with alloy frame from ebay only a few weeks earlier, no one seemed to spot it! Speaking to the seller when I collected it it turned out he had the double skin alloy boot lid too. I got extremely lucky!
