Been doing a lot of the 'black' paint stuff....got most of the bits and pieces completed. Last two big jobs were the sub-frames and the running gear. The displacers (silver) are in excellent condition...just cleaned them up...and installed them back in the frames.
Tanks are also restored...lots of the small bits all finished.

Looking good Dermot

I notice you’ve got the extended ‘competition’ bump stop plates on the rear arms.

Are you also planning to fit gas dampers on the front ?

Thanks John...trying to not go overboard on this car...keeping everything original as the car was pretty well preserved.

Hi Iain
These are 1/2" spacers that are standard equipment on the later MK1 S's.
Think Catmint is making them now as they weren't available.
Not sure about dampers as the car has the original SILVER hydro units.

Trust you Nick to pick up on those  ....those are my creation.....not cheap but they do add that little extra attention....I know you strive for the same detail.

Those are the original MOWOG sub-frames...lucky that I live in a very dry climate....not a lot of rust.

ah, I thought they were the ST part, didn’t realize they were also standard on later cars.

I think kit C-AJJ3362 on the front was paired with competition bump stops on the rear, to limit rear end compression under acceleration and try to keep the nose down.

Given the rarity of good hydrolastic displacers these days, and the crap quality of modern roads, fitting the kit is also cheap insurance to reduce the damping load on the hydro system.

Brings a warm glow to the cockles of my heart to see a restoration coming along like this. Well done Dermot
