Is it Me or.........

Post by The Collector »

Is it me or.... When you look on E Bay for MINIS for sale, they have endless Fake adverts for vehicles that are fraudulent. ie they show copy photos with little description and addresses that change day by day. (the owners having no idea that their car is being listed)

My Gripe is, Why are E Bay allowing these adverts to be listed and re-listed on a continual basis. Do they not check on the supposed sellers?

I apreciate that most of the people on this forum can spot a "Bad one" but many new Mini-ers are being taken for a ride.

Have you ever taken the time to report a suspect advert? If I see dodgy ads I report them, it only takes a couple of clicks.
Ebay does rely on its users to help out with reports of dodgy activity as it does not have the staff to check every listing.

I often click and report these, what I find odd is after reporting them the listing doesnt disappear, its still there, but wont open up?
Why dont they just remove them and instruct there robots to remove all future listings with the corrupt images.

I saw a pic of my very own spare / new RS500 engine that I had posted on a forum appear on eBay once - an Edinburgh listing. Goodness knows what the scam was but they took it down.

Hello surfblue,

Yes have reported several times, but the same cars keep coming back time and time again. Sadly

It must be an absolute nightmare for Ebay with so many fake accounts constantly popping up or hacked accounts advertising what appear to be genuine items. It must be difficult to delete every reported item without solid evidence, if they did they'd possibly open themselves up to malicious reporting. The answer to it might be for buyers to be advised NOT to send deposits, maybe Ebay could do more with publicity campaigns to warn vulnerable, naive or unsuspecting buyers to not do it. Alot of genuine sellers though do demand deposits and wouldn't be happy!
