There was a good 8-page article about the prototypes in MiniWorld's September 2014 issue, written by Bill Bell and Rainier de Klark. Really well-researched and well-worth if you want to know more about these cars. They concluded that 10 of them must have been made if I recall right.

I take it that the prototype's where all built before the 27/6/58

it is just that the front Swivel Hub's where cleared for production on that date and the Pre-production part No's changed

As Martin says, John Cooper was lent YOK250 after the launch. MC called it a pre production car, it wasn't, it was built 16th July and assigned to the Austin Motor Company Publicity Department. YOK250 was at the press launch too. YOK became the first prototype Cooper and died 25 years or so ago.
