Hopefully in the next week or so I should be getting a 1967 mk1 mini delivered, at the moment a big decision is to what gearbox to fit, at the moment the car is a 850 magic wand, the engine is coming out for a 1380 BMW 16v job to go in, but what gearbox to fit, I've been looking around for a 4 sync remote type without much success, should I hang out for one or fit a rod change type ( this would be mounted internally) opinions on the best way to go will be much appreciated, obviously either will be fully re-built.

Hello.
Your build sounds interesting....
How about a 22G1128 full straight cut with a pudding stirrer attached!!!!
Would look very stock but add a little interest on track days.....

Have you tried contacting this guy: http://www.guess-works.com/
He built a gearbox for such a conversion that a guy 'the mad scotsman' round here has in his previously Spi'd mini, and it has worked fine, and thats a rodchange.

What doesn't work so good is getting that engine in under a standard bonnet,
must be even worse in a chopped down sprinted shell.
Maybe a auto subframe can help in lowering the engine.

I’d go remote, just for the worlds best engine steady.

To answer a few of the points, yes I know the engine will be out side the bonnet line so a bulge will be required, and yes I think I would prefer a remote type box, but I'm having a big problem finding one, a magic wand type just won't suit the car.

I think JR had a 1128 sc box for sale..
I’ve just built a 333 with a magic wand style conversion.

If you're going so far from standard anyway I'd go rod change.

I second that , no point in having unreliable originality in an un original car . G
