DVLA says registration number is now on a 2016 Mitsubishi......

"This Morris Mini-Minor motor car was built in 1959 at Cowley in the West Midlands and first registered in Galashiels. A very early example - around the 500th one ever built - it was driven up from factory to be displayed in the showrooms of Purves of Galashiels on the day of the official launch of the Mini.
The blue painted saloon car has an 850 cc engine and the original black and grey seats and fleck trim. The registration number is LS7717."

I'm sure I've posted a photo of it quite recently, but there is a photo next to the display of the Purves showroom at the time. It used to be in one of the main galleries, but during a recent revamp was moved to immediately inside the entrance, a plinth previously used to display Jackie Strewarts 1971 Tyrell.

I always thought it a bit odd that the Mini was put there, yet the Imp (made in Scotland) is hidden away in an upstairs gallery that many visitors might miss.

The mini is not perfect by any means, but FAR better than the absolute rot box red one in the Glasgow transport museum

I used to work for Adam Purves in their paintshop

Stuart Purves was advid mini collector and restorer, he was the man behind seeing this one survive,
Though it was restored well before pre detail perfect days of today.

It was before i worked for them my guess would be mid 80's

I should add, the reg number is still in the possession of Adam Purves and has been on quite a few vehicles over the years
last time i saw the number it was on a Mitsubishi Mirage that i had in for repair a couple of years ago.

Funnily enough it was on the first i car i ever repaired when i worked for Purves a Rover 800....yuk lol

Interesting it's on loan to the NMS, I thought they owned it. I know the Tyrell was on loan, as is the Jaguar F1 car, I understand. I wonder what else in there is on loan?

Might pop in tomorrow for another wee look at it
