Who are the most famous people in your region.

I will start with my region Northern Ireland :D :D :D

1. Paddy Hopkirk, Monte Carlo winner and BMC Works driver.

2. John Watson, F1 driver who finished third in the 1982 F1 championship driving for Ferrari. He won 5 Grand Prix races.

3. Eddy Irvine, F1 driver who finished runner-up in the 1999 F1 Championship driving for Ferrari.

4. Ruby Murray, was a singer and actress. She scored ten hits in the UK singles chart between 1954 and 1959. She made pop chart history in March 1955 by having five singles in the top twenty in a single week.

Robert, a senior moment, you are totally correct. What a driver. Had a chat with John last year at the Spa Presbyterian Church Classic Show. True gentleman :D :D

Yes John Watson did drive for McLaren in 1982, but he did finish 3rd in the championship. He might have won it if McLaren had not boycotted the San Marino GP. He drove for McLaren from 1979 to 1985. Prior to that he drove for Brabham, Penske, Surtees, Lotus and privateer teams, but never for Ferrari.

Also John Watson was the first driver to win in a carbon fibre monocoque car when he won the 1981 British GP in a McLaren MP4/1.

We only have famous pop stars and minor reality TV celebrities from my neck of the woods.

Yes, he actually looked like taking the championship mid year.
(but he was living in Maidenhead, not NI, by then wasn't he, with Ronnie Peterson's widow)

My part of the world....., Sandie Shaw and the lady off Antiques Roadshow. Not too well known in the world of motor racing or rallying, but you got to start somewhere!

Thank you Robert, LMM 76C, we are both correct :D :D :D

I remember Archie Phillips, Jim McClements, Freddy Heany, Joey Greenan, Tommy Reid and John Watson all racing over here. Why did Tommy Reid never make it?
