Looks like a (black painted) clip for the swivel visor? Pre reshell then, the date I have is '67. Nidge might be able to date it better just from the length of Macca's moustache!

Alarm switch seams to have gone missing later on. The car also had a early benelite grill early in its life and later it has a later type benelite grill (more commonly known one today)

Agree about the grille but not the alarm switch. It's on the car in '69...

Naylor Brothers restored this car in the late 90s so they might know.

It's highly feasible that the Insurers would have put down for a re-shell
fitting new new shell's was common place all the way up to the 80's , on all cars

As this car would have had a far higher value, than a run of the mill mini is quite likely that a new shell was fitted after the smash.

Some of the photos do appear to show the car in the period after the crash, but looking at the example of other cars, how likely would a bespoke car be fully rebuilt to exactly the same spec - colour, bespoke fittings etc? wouldn't you normally expect it to be further modified at the same time if the repairs were significant?

It'd be interesting to see how serious the crash was, and whether it was a simple repair, or would justify a full reshell.

I suppose the answer, if anywhere, is in the article by the student who crashed it?
