It’s got the two switches and there is wiring off that. I guess I need to try and trace where that goes. Which the car came with original manual. Any thoughts?

Are there bulb holders inside the binnacle ?. The early handbook shows the lamps as standard. The later 1966 handbook shows just one switch for the instrument lights, no parcel shelf lamps. The switch would be left or right side depending on left or right hand drive. I imagine the binnacle had holes on both sides and one was blanked off. Perhaps someone fitted a switch to the redundant hole and wired it for some other purpose ?. The binnacle may not be the original one for the car, if it was I think it would have the parcel shelf lamp windows.

Thanks to those who gave help. Feel a bit of a wally as I traced the problem to a dead switch.

Does anybody have a photo of the correct switches? I've seen th2 ones like the panel light switch on the later 3 instrument binnacles fitted (which are the type used on the rear bin lights) as well as a squarer stubby variant. One of the photos on the thread has longer plastic switches - which is correct?

The square stubby switches are correct. Lucas part number 5L31.
