Hi all,
Does anyone know what the switches on the speedo of a MK1 Morris Mini 850 do? Facing the speedo the toggle switch on the right turns on/off the speedo lighting but I can’t see what the one on the left does?
Thanks Robin

There are two opaque plastic windows one each side of the binnacle, these are lights to illuminate the dash shelf, hence the second switch.

The binnacle only has the speedo ... there’s no additional dials? Try and post a picture.

You need a silver speedo to go with that fuel gauge.

If it doesn't have the dash lamps I'm sure it should just have the single switch for the instrument lights, not 100% sure on the detail differences on the early cars though. What year is it ?.

My 62 has the lamps as shown, however my car also came with a black speedometer and silver fuel gauge, after investigation I was told the early speedos where not the best and common for them to be replaced with later ones, not sure if that statement was correct but it makes sense as mine had a brand new mk2 type speedometer fitted, and it was a one owner car and other than that was not messed with.
