Talking to chap who swears he worked on a 6 port head ?

2 centre exhaust ports one over the other......fact or fiction?

The one he worked on was at Coldwell engineering .

Now that's interesting...…

There was a piece of paper with the Coldwell Mink when I bought it saying it was originally built with an EX works experimental 6 port head, and I seem to remember someone suggesting it came from a car built for Sebring, but to Coldwell Via Frank Williams (yes, that one!), so perhaps he had it on his A40? the story I heard was that 3 or 4 were cast, and I think Coldwell maybe had more than one? There was also mention that some were stolen, possibly from FW's lock up?

Anyway, in the cine footage of the car being built it clearly has a 3 branch exhaust being fitted, and in the early photos it has a weber on a 'normal' 5 port manifold, so I don't know if that head was ever fitted to the car, or was just around at the time. (Edit - if the sixth port was ABOVE the central exhaust port, I suppose it's possible the manifold could, on a grainy cine film, look 'normal', but actually has a split centre branch?)

Here's the video (Manifolds being fitted at 2:10s): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No6RPr2N-mU

I did ask Bill, but he is fairly dismissive of the car and said he couldn't recall. I think he and John H had a falling out years ago? John couldn't remember anything specific about the head

Who was it mentioned it to you? I wonder if it's the same ex employee I spoke with when I had the car. I'd have to look up his name (Edit - it was Steve Myers), but he was working on a book about all the cars ever built in Sheffield. he's the guy fitting the manifolds in the film

I really never should have sold that car...….

Oh, and I'm still trying to see an example of the patented combined throttle / brake pedal first fitted to the Minkand offered as an option on early Biotas.

I think that's what you call a result.

What, a photo of the item and a poxy video of it maybe being fitted in the location in question, with a 1st and a 2nd hand witness account?

I'd hope we can do better than that!

And here's me thinking I'd found a right mistery

Yes Al it was Steve Myers, he's been helping me with some detail work on a Sheffield Simplex.

Do send him my regards, and tell him I'm not sure of the progress on the Mink, but will enquire.

I remember him being surprised when I sent him a copy of the film, as it shows him eating a bun at one point, and he said "I don't remember us ever having time to eat!"
