They must be pretty resistant to corrosion as mine have sat in the garage since 1998 and not been cleaned in all that time, think I will just clean them up a little and fit as they are, maybe fit some Dunlop r7 tyres to be a little more period correct, am I right in presuming inside of wheel is just bare alloy as original,

I think that they came out in late '68. The inner surface and tyre well areas were just laquered/protected but not painted.

Can anyone confirm the production dates. The year code is within a ring of 12 splines which indicate the month of that year. One of mine looks like 8-68.

Added later. Yep, 8/68 followed by a 10/70 and two 7/71's

I had 11 examples when doing my set and the latest date was '71.

Have dug out a couple of my wheels one is 08/68 and the other 09/69, perfect dates as accessory wheel for my may 68 car,
It’s one of the better looking wheels with offset for drums or 7 inch discs

It'd be a really good idea if someone wot wus compu'a litrat, like wot I ain't not ,could bring up every thread wot mentioned Dunlop D1 type wheels and put them into a folder. There's lots of good specialised and general info about them on this brilliant forum
