Nobody gave a shit about counting bootboard bristles and concours and they would no doubt look at current values of cars and parts with incredulity
Going to scrapyards in the late seventies and early eighties when 1960's Minis were just worthless old junk,

Nobody gave a toss. It was a smart wee thing and I enjoyed driving the bollocks off it. Car shows? Concours?

Absolutely 100% bang on.
My first car, a modified 998 cooper was bought for £280 in 1976. That thing was trashed smashed bashed, hill climbed and bodged on a monthly basis. The cost of spray cans (usually a close match) from Halfords eventually cost me more than I paid for the car I think. :lol: :lol:

Ha, ha, I remember that stuff, you had to get about 10 layers of paint on to tell what colour it was. And as for a colour match if you got the colour you wanted (red, green, blue etc.) you were doing well.

I eventually went all posh and hand painted the car in gloss tekaloid coach enamel.Black of course.
Took me all bloody night. :D

I did that with one of my Volkswagens. It took two weeks to do 8 coats, 4 base and 4 top. I did the first base coat without thinning the paint, a big mistake as it took ages to rub it flat to get the brush marks out.

My pal did a super job on his Cooper. Pretty well stripped the outer shell and door shuts etc and did it with BRGreen Tekaloid using a couple of with a small paint rollers. The finish was an orange peel on a par with the standard finish. I seem to remember that it was bluddy hard paint that would have rubbed down and polished well

My first car. Never did get round to finishing the duplicolouring further than the front end. Ran it for over two years like that :oops:

Handling was shite, went round corners on 3 wheels. Typical teenager always running on a low tank of fuel, always seemed to run near Mark's work. It was expensive then, 4 gallons for £1.

That stuff used to set like Japanese knacker lacquer as we used to call it.
Boy it was tough.
