Everyone refers to the 22G846 as a Riley/elf gearbox but in reality it seems like it was used across the whole range of ado15 and maybe some ado16, in the late 60s and early 70s with various diffs. Seems to show up a lot more on export and ckd minis of that era. It’s got a reputation as being quite a strong gearbox so works well with the larger engines too. I have one on my 1275 S on a 3.65 diff, and I did a 998 to 1380 conversion on a ‘72 Mk3 with that same box a couple of weeks ago.
