Does any one know how many of the original 80ish 1071 FJ produced cars are still around?

Do you mean FJ single seater race cars or mini cooper s with FJ type blocks ?

Most FJ cars were not built with the 1071 type engine

There were at least 1500 minis built with the FJ / flat front AEG 151 block

Mini Magazine Autumn 2006 showing Andy Harrison 1071 FJ , reg 9330FN

Under Junior poke section, page 30

states "its reckoned less than a 100 Formula Junior Blocks made their way into Minis"

so I wanted to confirm total production numbers of the FJ 1071 block and road car numbers left.

Well the highest cap/block number I,be seen is C1416 and I,ve seen at least 10 very early ones with no numbers on them so I would say that's complete rubbish .

Some of the early 970,s used them so that would mean 80 blocks lasted approximately 18 months

That was a few years ago when much less was known but yes as Simon says above that's way out! That's a May '63 car and is owned by a member on here. (Mick!) .Its one of the few left still in it's original shell!

For class racing and rallying, 1000 had to be built to qualify for homologation, the never got that produced , or even 1000 units for the 970!

So 1500 units wouldn't on been achieved.

The c stamping on FJ 1071 block wasn't sequential and cannot be used for estimating numbers produced.

On what basis do you say the C numbers on 1071 blocks are not in any sequence ?
