I wonder what you would have got your best return on, a 1275 cooper s or a healey 3000 if you had just bought it and stashed it away?

Sprite or 1100 de luxe. Not a difficult choice then...

Interesting Dermott.

Shows how much HOY would have been had it been sold as soon as it was built.

I wonder how much it was actually sold for 18 months later when it was an 'old' model :?

Purchase tax was quite a chunk wasn't it? You can understand why some of the small car producers went down the 'it's a kit car guv honest' route. Having said that, a 1275 'S' Unipower GT would set you back £1190 only a year or two later.

It was only 1% more than todays VAT rate.

I always thought that 998 Coopers were good value £ per CC against the S Smoke Grey

They still are :D

Quite a premium for the 1275 over the 970 I notice.

TOTALLY agree Island Blue. Coopers are fantastic value for money and underrated little cars. Love 'em to bits and wish I'd kept the one I recovered in '88 or so from a work pals husband who locked it in his mums wooden outhouse/garage - and left it! New water pump, new battery, clean fuel 2x new rear wheel cylinders and that was it
