Just noticed on Facebook that my friend in New Zealand, Alasdair Brass (66S) lost his battle with cancer today.

Although we had never met, just spoken on the phone, Al has always been a very helpful, friendly and enthusiastic person and loved all things with four wheels and an engine. He helped me a lot when I was restoring the Yellow Peril and the pick up. It was my finished 'S' that inspired him to paint his fantastic race car Fiesta Yellow/OEW.

Will always be a regret in my life that I never got to meet him. :(

RIP Al Brass

That is sad news. I remember a visit to New Zealand in 2008. I put a post on the MCR forum as I was interested in any Mini events in NZ. James Robinson organised a small gathering of Minis just outside Christchurch for me to attend. I met James with his S and also Al and his wife (and others) plus had an opportunity to look around some great Mini’s in the antipodes.
Really great people in a great country. Condolences to his friends and family.

Paul

Likewise Al helped me out too and was always quick to help out. I was out in a coffee shop when I saw the Facebook post which came as a real shock. Gray

Al and I used to chat most days when he was working at Southern Viking.

Quite handy as the evening here was early morning in NZ so we used to chat about Minis and our projects before he started work and after I'd been out in the garage.

I knew he had been ill for some time but understood from Al only a few weeks back that things were improving and he felt really well, so this was a complete shock.

I was shocked and very saddened to hear of Al's passing this morning, still processing the loss of of a great guy and true friend that will be hugely missed both here and buy his many friends around the world.
My condolences to out to his wife Beryl, daughters Kelly and Carolyn and the extended Brass family.

RIP Alisdair Brass.

I also never met Al but communicated with him regarding the hydrolastic instruction plates he had made and distributed to other BMC enthusiasts. Until a year or two ago he was a member of the Ausmini forum in Australia.

Condolences to his family.
