Hello!

Thank you for admitting me to this group.

I recently purchased my first mini and I am in love with this little car.

She is mysterious to me- registered in my state as a 1972, and from what I can tell, she is from 1962.

She has all the early Mk1 details and all the date codes that I have found on the glass and misc parts, are from 1961-2.

The engine is a Canadian 998 from the 1970's and no help in identifying the car.

Additionally, she has a fiberglass tilt front end and all the parts where a data plate would normally be found- are gone.

ON TOP OF ALL THAT!!! She has all the Cooper parts from 1962; 7" disc brakes, 100mph speedo, chrome trim around door windows and piano hinged rear windows.....

The only number I have is the floor pan tag, which I cannot find any info on- but read here there may be someone with some knowledge of.

The floor pan tag reads; F199878 . The first three digits seem larger than the last four... F19 9878

Is there any other places to find a body number?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have the chassis number, it was removed when the fiberglass front end was installed.

The number in the picture is on a tag in the car on the front floor pan.

I believe it is called an FE number?

I have no idea- well, a slight clue is the spacing of the holes in the boot lid where an emblem once resided. They are slightly visible under a skim coat of paint and bondo and are horizontal- which from what I can tell, says a Morris emblem resided there, as the Austin holes are slightly of kilter.

Puzzler for sure.

Does it have a remote gear lever cut out?

Currently has a remote gear change installed. Why do you ask? Is there another clue that I missed?

It's definitely a mk1, but not from 1970...
unfortunately the FE number can only say about the month and year, but there are no registers.

So the engine is not an 848cc or 997cc?

No, the engine number is intact and identifies the engine as a Canadian 998.

How can I tell the date of manufacture from the FE number?
