Hi

I am trying to identify my race car

there is no vin number on cowl

but I have the FE number

the car is a mark one
solid front end skirt
original snap in carpet brackets spot welded in right position
single tank .... no hole for second
both gear shifter holes in floor

this mark is also on front end


I am trying to find out VIN number

this will leed to the proper original color of the car

you will not be able to find the chassis number from the FE number as the FE was never recorded by the factory in relation to a particular chassis number

simon on here will be able to tell you a quite close date of production of the shell

the 'NMP' badge is just 'Nuffield motor pressings'

if your car is a Morris it should have the numerical part of the chassis number stamped onto the triangle on the RH side inner wing, it can be very feint, so use care when removing the paint.

from the numerical part of the chassis number you will be able to 'best guess' the first part of the number, then just apply to the heritage for the certificate

if it is an Austin they didn't stamp the number, so you will be on a dead end.

surely if you wish to know the original colour of the car its just a case of removing some of the newer paint?

I think the shell was dipped

I can not find any old color any where.....

Chassis number can be traced !

slight brain fart - NMP stands for Nuffield metal products, not metal pressings

they where part of the morris group, so i guess that the fact that the shell has this badge shows its a morris, not an austin

A lot of 1962 Supers had NMP on the front panel.....

Just checked my April built 62 Super... NMP on front panel and Front End number is FE313***......
Just hope you can find a number!

My take on this regarding the colour would be this. If you can't find what the original colour was and the shell hasn't got a chassis number, then noone else in the world is going to know what colour it was. And better still, no one else in the whole wide world will EVER know what colour it was. So just paint it appropriately, to your choice, with a colour of the period. End of! Cheating....... not really I say

Hi, this is my first post on here so please be gentle with the new boy!!!
Interesting post this, I was wondering if anyone on here knew of any numbers to look for on a British Built Mk1 Austin Moke? The shell looks original but it would be nice to know where to look to confirm this??
