Does anybody have experience of tracing their vehicles history?
I only ask as I am about to embark on investigating the history of one of my cars and in one of my dads club newsletters there was a piece about how DVLA no longer consider your ownership as a reasonable cause to request information.
This seems a shame as in the past I’ve had some lovely letters and photos returned from previous keepers....

Just good old fashioned detective work now. Start with who/what you know and try to expand from there.

As has been said above sadly a V888 is no longer a way to proceed with this type of investigation.

In a typical one rule for one and one for the other, you can go onto the companies house website, type in my company name and find out my birthday, address, my turnover, what my company’s assets are worth, how much was in the bank at a certain date and even see a scan of my signature....

Yes, but you're not a government quango agency answerable to............ well, who really knows? Like some of the other DVLC/A rulings that seem to find their way onto the books, no one seems to know where or how to challenge the rulings. Or have the cash to do so either

Maybe a 1000 freedom of information requests to the Secretary of State might change the DVLA attitude on this one !!!!

I for one count myself lucky, I got all the previous owner history for my
Contessa! in the summer just before they changed the goal posts,
and it turned up a previous owner of it! and he has been very helpful.
Plus it proved that the car has never been out of West Yorkshire since
it was delivered from the factory in 1976.

Freedom of Information requests. Good idea Trev but the DVLA are not subject to that statute. They're a quango-otic agency don't forget!
