Just wondering, does your 64 S have 3.5 S wheels or the later 4.5 s ? Also which would be correct for a restoration? Steve (CTR)

I also have a 1964 dry single tank 1275 'S', someone had fit the RHT when I bought it and I returned it to single, I love the its not a real 'S' because...remarks and also the Austin Cooper S badge should be centred on the lid to be a real 'S', as for better weight distribution, the driver on a UK car sits on the right and the petrol is on the left.....etc.
At the end of the day it is your car and if the next owner wants a single tank car they will change it back!

Lads....... we seem to be forgetting chapter 1, verse 1...... I agree that really tin-top-tom can do what and cut where he likes. But we're not even talking about a genuine tank but the car IS, very original without it!

I wouldn't fit a second tank either if it didn't come with it from the factory. I might fit other stuff that don't require drilling or cutting the shell. This applies only if the shell is original. If it's had loads of new panels as UK cars often have, I'd be less protective of the shell.

Both are perfectly acceptable. The standard fitment wheel was the 3.5 the optional factory wheel was the 4.5"

I use mini spares rose petals but would really like to get hold of a set of 3.5s to have the option of the bog standard look.

Thanks for all the posts everyone! :D

I do agree that it's partly a case of 'what would you have fitted if you owned it new' - I think that's why we all fit H4's and period steering wheels, etc - we would have done that if we where back in the day and had the car in period.

On balance though I think I'll not fit the tank. After all it's not going to help performance or anything, just longer gaps between filling up!


Soooo - anyone in the market for an after market R/H tank? :lol: :lol: :roll: :oops:
