I still have the 1275GT that I learnt to drive in, was my brothers at the time, he bought it in 1980, I had it off him in 1983ish. Still have it in the garage although needs a bit of bodywork doing. Would be good to get it sorted for it's 40th Anniversary of registration in August 2019.

Had my Mk2 Cooper since 1986, it had a budget 80s style restoration shortly after purchase (patch welds, poorly fitted A-panel, respray, that sort of thing) and has had various running repairs since.

In the mid 90s we'd got a patch too far for the MOT man so went a bit mad and fitted a load of MM panels including half floors, cross member, proper outer sills (with jacking points), heel panel plus a new rear subframe. Actually it was a nearly new subframe from a front ended 1275GT that I'd salted away a few years before.

Spent about four years off the road from 2008 when the water pump went and it turned out that kids and the lack of a garage meant that it wasn't so easy to DIY. This eventually led to some recommissioning work in 2011 and it's still going strong although a suspension rebuild is on the to do list.

I have posted most of these old photos before but newer members of the Mk1 forum may be interested for this thread.
My first '65 Mk1 Morris Mini-Minor (Tweed Grey) shown here in 1974 before and.......just after I had 'upgraded' the badges, door mirrors, grille and rear lights to Mk3, fitted 'Tilling' winding windows, smoke tinted glass, rear wiper, roof aerial, some 6x10 Mambas with 165 Goodyear Rally Specials, centre exit exhaust and new reflective numberplates + wiper aerofoils ! 8-) Note also my 'period' flared jeans and British Leyland badged Rally Jacket.....still have hair but not quite so long.

A couple of years later this was my second Mini a '67 Mk 1, upgraded to 998cc eng/box from a Mk3 write off and with many other bits transferred over from my previous '65 Mini which had rusty sills, rear subframe and failing Hydrolastic plus some accident damage to the front end. Sprayed black in my dad's single garage by my brothers and I with black 'shadowlite' glass, W&P nudge bars and a Webasto sunroof from a Triumph Herald. Scrapyards were full of Heralds with sunroofs so we used to remove them recover vinyl and refurbish as required and them fit them to many different cars for friends and family (if they were brave enough to have the the hole cut).
Cooper door glass trims and Vanden Plas 1100 headlight rims were fitted and sought after at any trip to the breakers on a Sat or Sunday morning!

Spot also in the background our yellow Mini 7 racer on a trailer in the front garden of my parents house.....the blue 2 door Mk3 Cortina GT was my older brothers.

Next I had my first Mk3 Mini this red 1972 S with Chris Tyrrell head, set up on Jon Mowatts rolling road in Benfleet, Essex, W&P nudge bars, 6x10 Cosmic Slot Mags, 165/70x10 Goodyear Rally Specials, smoke tinted 'Tilling' glass and more Vandan Plas Headlamp rims!
Seen here in the early 1980's in the Brands Hatch race paddock with Chris Tyrrells Mini Se7en racer (Paddock Bend in background).

And the white/black Mk4 Mini pictured at Brooklands below I have now owned the longest at over 30 years (apart from a longtime owned '59 Mini that will hopefully be my retirement restoration project and at last returned to the road!)

Quite right, would be good to get a host of them together?
Maybe Blyton would be a good venue, although think I'll struggle to get mine done by then unless I can find a good body shop pretty quick!
Any ideas?

I bought my first car ( a 1930 Model A Ford ) in 1965, a car I still own. Next came a 62 AH side curtain square body Sprite, followed by my first mini in 1968. While I don't still have the sprite or mini I have always traded up or bought another mini before selling. I bought a 85 1000 E as a father son project in 2000. Son Alex and I have covered over 100,000 miles in this car and he is only 17. He starts driving next week. I recently bought him a Honda Civic coupe for a driver. At his age I was driving my 1930 Ford, man cars have come a long way. Steve (CTR)
