I agree Andrew. This topic is far too controversial...

Maybe the safe way forward is to just attend shows with just a picture of the original car in period and take along the number plate??

:o  8-)

Just checked The Works Minis by Peter Browning
Lists the following cars written off.
977ARX
277EBL
BJB77B
CRX88B
DJB93B
EJB55C
GRX55D
JBL495D

I wonder how many of these cars now exist and have been given provenance
Glad I haven't got £100,000 in one
This one will soon be locked

If you add to that the list of ex works cars that got destroyed/scrapped in privateer hands you end up with a longer list! If the DVLA had kept all the records of the cars that got exported or scrapped when they computerised instead of deleting them all I suspect there'd be alot less interest in this topic, but as has been said many times, that goes for alot of cars of all types!!

I haven't got a problem with this thread so long as it does not get personal,or out of line, works Mini history is interesting to many albeit often convoluted and somewhat opaque! Mark however... ..but if you keep everything above the belt I have no problem with the thread and maybe it'll last... the weekend?!!

Just please try to stick to what's been established and remember that despite alot of cynicism toward some of the cars that have been re-discovered or reborn in some cases that lots of Minis lead a very hard life in the 60s and 70s of all shapes and colours not just works comp cars.

Why bother locking it, it's been done to death before, but it keeps coming back. Everyone knows it's a can of worms, but folk keep wanting to tug at the lid for some reason.

No one is going to come up with 'the answer' so rather than needing it locked, can't we all just leave it alone?

There's pictures of most of the cars on the list looking worse for wear and quite a few of ex works cars in private hands in tatters. As far as I'm concerned if the logbook carried on continuously then the owner had every right to rebuild it any way they wanted.

The completely burned out 277 EBL was used in an advert to promote the safety of wearing a seatbelt, there's images of it online ( I scanned it originally!). What a shame the works never kept that one before it's demise (if it was indeed the same car) as Rauno virtually won outright first time out in it on the 1963 Alpine, rarely gets a mention that!

I can't link to the wrecked car image as my photobucket is now kaput.

As for discarded, I presume you mean sold off by Comps without their works ID?

I can think of the original GRX 309D, the two LRXs and Ronnie's LBL 6D for starters but there must have been loads! The scrap man couldn't have had them all!
