The car that now wears GPH1C was registered in 1988 as BKN338C, the GPH1C plate being added shortly afterwards.

V997 has been resurrected recently (2016).

Was BKN a Surf Blue old rally car?

No idea, it was probably an unissued number used to register a car on an age related plate.

BKN..C is a Jan '65 registered in Kent. Same month that GPH 1C was registered but that was Surrey.

Is one to assume that this rocker cover plate is a piece of fiction made to resemble something that never existed in the first place (allegedly) or was there such a plate back in the day?

Any thoughts?

Product of Greg's imagination as far as I am aware.

BUT I could be wrong.

Barry Hawkins was the parts man at Downton and he told me recently he's never seen one of those rocker cover plates before. I believe him!

The auction house are seemingly sticking with the description and the alledged original 53 year old paperwork. I'm sure we'd all be very interested to see that paperwork but the thing that strikes me is that there's nothing to stop the buyer applying for the '777 MCG' number plate once purchased. I heard from a very reliable source recently that several seperate applications went in to Gaydon for a Heritage Certificate for that chassis number in the 90s!

Interestingly I was speaking to a chap at Blyton in 2016 who was telling me that he actually has the official documents for 777 MCG in his name but the actual car is abroad and has been bought by someone else? There is a legal battle going on but getting the car back looks impossible. True or not it was a facinating conversation!

I don't think you are wrong. It's a nonsense statement about the engine oil,

I didn't think I was wrong either, just being modest :)
