Hi All,
Whilst hunting around on the web for 145/80 10 tyres for the GT, i came across 145/80R10 Dunlop Sp11 69T. The websites that list them are in South Africa i think. They were priced at R2600.00, which is around £40.
Dunlop site for them is http://www.dunloptyres.co.za/Tyre-Range ... er/SP%2011
Are these avalible in the UK, and would they be legal?

You can run what you like as long a you're sensible - heck, if you were in work yesterday you'd have seen Gertie parked down the front on her CR65s...

The bigger problem is the cost of shipping from SA as it's eyewateringly expensive, possibly to the point of the UK Dunlops being cheaper.

Saw it parked up in the car park.

Obviously you cant just run anything as it has to be road legal, able to pass an MOT etc. Nothing worse than to have a bump, and the insurance being void by not being legal. Sounds boring i know, but i want the GT to be correct.

So the question remains- Are the 145/80R10 Dunlop Sp11 69T tyres from South Africa avalible from anyone, and are they legal?

I'm surprised at the lack of posts on this one Jerry. :o

If they were legal in this country, I'd certainly be interested in a set or two.

I'm still hunting the interweb to see if the tyres are E marked.

The South African Mini guru is Ryno Verster. I don't know if he'll be able to help with this issue, but it would be worth a try.

If they are currently available, then it is unlikely that they will be "E" marked if they are then you can certainly use them in the UK, if they aren't then, I doubt there would ever be an issue.

However, with shipping, duty & tax you would be looking at around £100 a corner.

From what I've been able to find, selling tyres without an E mark is illegal.
Using tyres without an E mark on the road - as long as they meet the tread depth requirements - is legal.

Yoko 539s are now marked Competition Use Only - not because they are unsafe, but because they couldn't pass the driveby noise requirements to get an E mark.
Does that mean the tyres produced on the Friday afternoon shift are any different in construction and behaviour to the ones on Monday morning with the new sidewalls ?
No, it just means that legislation prevents them from being sold as a road tyre.

It's a bit of a grey area like the difference between selling and smoking tobacco products.
