I see there is an ad (see below) in September Miniworld mag for Japanese JMSA original Mini parts via Somerfords, including J.A.P. Magna Mk2 6x10" at £843 inc vat for a set of four.

Can anyone comment on the quality of the rubber steering rack gaiters and the rubber track rod end covers. Maybe these bits plus the drive shaft stuff etc etc could be better than some of the crap we have at the moment.......

I was offered their Valtain CV boots when I was last in Japan. The quality was excellent. They had become fed up with the crap they were buying from the UK so had got together to make their own. I have offered previously to supply them to members of this forum but the price had put people off. This is not an unusual reaction, as we often had customers in my shop saying the such and such an item was worth more than their car.
I have no doubt that all Valtain parts will be excellent quality.

My mum would say it's just like shopping in Marks and Spencer. You get JUST what you pay for! It's bleedin' obvious..... If you pay for crap, guess what you're going to get? If I'd known that I could get these boots a month or so ago that's what I'd have got. Do they do CV and UJ boots while I've got the lot apart?

At the end of the day if these companies keep buying rubbish if enough people complain surely they must speak to the manufacturing companies because it is all about a QC issue it is still possible to make the correct grade of rubber/steel. From what I read on this forum from rubber parts through bearings, and ball joints these items some are safety critical are just not FIT FOR PURPOSE, but it is a quality issue and the retailer should make their supplier/manufacturer aware of the issue's. :?

Rich I would pay that in a heartbeat for some decent quality parts.

Can you just imagine if LRC, London Rubber Company, made Durex from duff rubber. Maybe a consortium of the large stockists ought to speak to LRC and have some Durex quality stuff made. We could have ribbed gaiters and gaiters in different colours and...... it's mind blowing!

Surprised about the 99.9%.....I would expect to pay £24 or more for quality rack boots that last on a modern car so why not for a Mini?

£24 for steering rack boots is cheap for quality parts, I would buy them over budget ones, i really think the market on minis has changed over the years and more people want quality rather than cheapness now, who wants to be taking the steering and driveshafts apart every couple of years.
On my mk1 I had to replace 1 steering rack gaitor before I had finished the car so it lasted about 6 months without even going out the garage.
