Anyone sent off a V888 form to the DVLA lately for information about their car's history? Sent the cheque and form for mine nearly 6 weeks back and haven't heard a dicky bird. Cheque's not been cashed either. Heard some say that it takes around 6 weeks, and others say 3-4 weeks (and yeah, I'm not unaware over what they're like these days when it comes to processing, etc, etc). Put it this way, I'm still waiting…

I have never waited that long.

If I was you, I'd probably give them a ring.

its depends how much info they have on the car, I had one that took months and I kept ringing them only to be told that it was in the archiving section.

about 6 months later 3" of paper turned up, so it was worth the wait

its a lot of work for a fiver, it probably costs them more in photocopying!

Usually if it's going to be a while, i.e they have a lot of info, they send you a cover letter to say they have received the request. Normally been 5-8 weeks in my experience.

I sent them a fiver and a V888 oncve and they simply returned the cheque with a note saying they don't disclose a car's history. Have things changed or was I looking for the wrong information?
Admittedly it was for a car I did not own

Yes it has to be your own car, or have written permission of the owner.

Thanks everyone, very informative! I'll give it until early next week, and if all is still quiet, then it's probably best to give them a call. Do have the buff log book and a good bit of history from 64-80, but have a few gaps from the 80s and 90s to fill, so hoping it'll give me some answers…

Swerve alert ....

What does "not licensed" mean on a V5C ?

This is in the box normally saying PLG / Historic vehicle etc.

Didn't need to give our chums in Swansea a ring in the end, as my stuff arrived this morning. Have to say that it didn't yield a great deal if truth be told, but it was better than nothing…
