 In the latest Mini Magazine is an artikel about an Wotks tribute (page 76).
Robert Dickson who build is was working in the 60th at Kane of Comber in the
Northern Irland BMC dealer. This was one of the most successful Downton agents,
does some one know something more and maybe some pictures from it.

I am just interrested because of the DOWNTON link.

Kees.

There were a couple of pictures in the Downton section of this site. One was of Andrew Kane's race Mini which was very successful and another of their Downton stand at an early Ulster Motor Show. The cars on the stand were a Downton tuned 998 Clubman and Jim McClements legendary Riley Elf racer. The two people on the stand are Jim McClements ( Downton Conversion Specialist ) and Andrew Kane (Dealer Principal)
According to the late Jim McClements, Kanes were the biggest dealer apart from the Downton factory. In the background of one of the pictures in the article you can see an original Downton Conversions sign which was in Kane's window for many, many years.
The bronze yellow Clubman on the stand was loaned to a local magazine for a road test which commented favourably on the performance which somewhat overwhelmed the standard brakes. I believe it was subsequently bought by the brother of David Grant -the present boss of the BRDC.

Kane's were one of the most successful Downton agents. They supplied parts for most of Ireland & had very good links with the Original Social Club too. The likes of Barry H & Richard L would go over & race against Kane's drivers in England V Ireland races.

There are pics & more on the main site.

Here's one, it's on the main site somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly where.

That is the photograph I was describing above. I had a look on this website yesterday but couldn't find any of the Kane of Comber photographs. I assumed they had been taken down.
Robert Dickson has a large display of photos in his office, mainly of his own motorsport career, but there are some of the Kane cars in action. I will try and see if I can get a decent copy and post them when I leave my Mini with him in a few days time.

Nothing gets taken down once it's up. I is however sometimes difficult to find stuff, even I struggle.
