Just as a little aside re Police and wheels Pete. The reason why Liverpool didn't opt for anything extra was because they were a small-in-everything City Police Force. Small numbers, small geographical area and small, tight budget. Because of this they couldn't negotiate bulk order rates for discounts with BMC (like the Post Office or the SEB etc) so the only discounts were through Lookers, the big local BMC agents. So they screwed down everything that they could. No black roofs, no r/h tank on one particular order, basic trim spec and definitely no optional extras. The only concession was recliners for the one large thing they did have...... big cops! Things got a bit better when they joined up with Bootle Police. But not a lot!

Wish someone would write all this stuff up

With your background(s), Peter, it looks like we need a volunteer.
There is a mass of info out there, but a book might have limited appeal.
The only 'personality' I can think of is John Gott. And he defo. would have expected a better seat.

Don't get the bit about the black roof, surely if they'd have kept the cars Snowberry/black they'd have been even cheaper?

That is a very nice Mk3 but I don’t understand what they mean by historically correct suspension fitted front and rear. All Mk3 S type cars had wet suspension. The seats look odd also to me and did that age of Mk3 car have air-vents?

Thanks Ronnie for that information. Was the last Mk3 Cooper S not built in mid June 1971? I've never seen an original Mk3 S type car with air-vents :)

When they were built and sold were very different I think mine is one of the last 500 or so built (I think Simon will know the build date). I purchased my Mk3 august 71 from S&A Staines in Middlesex, at the time none of the local dealers were interested (I live Tyneside), so I checked down the country John Sprinzel had two second hand for sale, but I came up with two new cars the one I purchased (bronze yellow) S&A actually driven from their Catford branch no extras 3 1/2" wheels and there was a garage in Tollworth had a blaze with the heated rear window, rake adjusting seats, face level ventilation and 4 1/2" wheels :o
