Blyton Park 2017 Final Instructions

Post by Pete »

Ok so we're getting nearer to AD4 and I wanted to just firm a few things up.

Saturday Arrival and Camping

Anyone arriving Saturday for the meal, entertainment or just to set up and camp please try to arrive after 5pm, bare in mind that if you arrive before 5.30 we will stack all vehicles up on the access road until such a time we can enter the venue (from 5.30). Camping is £10 per night (for Saturday and/or Sunday night) and will be collected on arrival. The site has washing and shower facilities plus a limited number of electric hook ups that are all positioned around the barn on the camping field. Will all campers in tents please use the far side of the field and anyone wishing to store their trailer out of the way will find an area for that to the side of the camping field. The gates to the venue are usually locked after 10pm.

Saturday Night Food

Blyton are happy to serve up an evening meal for us that we can all eat together from 6.00. This will comprise of a choice of Pie & Peas, Lasagna or Cheese&Onion Quiche (all with chips) which will all be £6 per head and served in the dining room from 6pm. Please order and pay on the day. I could however do with an idea how many of us will be dining so please fill in the poll below or send me a PM with numbers if you are intending to dine with us, failing that Blyton will cook up around 60 covers.

Saturday Night Fun

Our Q&A on Saturday night will be with ex Downton, Arden and Cooper works driver Gordon Spice who will be entertaining us at 7.30pm on Saturday the 29th in the club house. I'm sure Gordon has a few funny stories for us and no doubt ably assisted by Whizzo who will also be in attandance with Jeff Williamson. The room seats about 60 so please be prompt if you want a seat. There's no charge for the evening and feel free to bring a bottle. We always try and finish early so there'll still be time for a good natter.

Two last requests : please keep your paddock parking as tight and tidy as possible in order to fit everyone in, we will have nudging 60 track cars in attendance so space will be tight. Another request is for marshalling on Sunday morning until lunch time, we are always short and any help is gratefully recieved so if you can spare an hour or two please make yourself known.

I've attached a poll just to help fathom some numbers, please fill in as many options as you like.

Thanks! :)

And a tip from me, they really do lock the gates at 10pm.

a couple of points to note on the back of this:

1. Don't bother calling the security number on the fence, it's years out of date.
2. It's a long walk from the gate to your tent.
3. It's a high fence, and you risk dropping your chips.

Strong interest from traders this year, there should be some rare bits on sale at Blyton and Gordon is very kindly bringing a variety of his products from the excellent Catmint range. I'm sure he won't mind you pre ordering...

I am planning to come as to watch you having some fun round the track, I would be happy to help out with the marshalling if required but I will be bringing my 8 year old lad with me (not sure if he would be allowed to come trackside with me) I have some hi vis, is anything else required? do I need to be at the track by a specific time to be briefed?

That's great thanks! We'll be there early and track cars that haven't arrived on Saturday do start to arrive early so if you can make it for anytime between 8 and 11 your help will certainly be appreciated. My mobile number is 07740 865308 for when you arrive or any others wishing to help. The paddock is quite a safe place for an 8 year old though we always have our wits about us with so many cars around.

Thanks also to all that have contacted me already. :)

The morning track session will start at 9.30 and end at 12.30. We'll be having the usual track parade immediately after,so if all cars (classic Minis, variants or derivatives only) wishing to take part in the track parade if you can line up in the paddock at 12.30 with a view to commencing at 12.45 for three laps of the circuit behind the course car.

Once we're all back in the paddock we'll then be having the prize giving at around 1pm. This will take place outside the clubhouse (or inside if the weather doesn't play ball) and there will be trophies for :

Car Of The Show
Best Mini/variant
Best Prepared Track Car
Maximum Mini award for Best Mini Derivative
The Big End Award for spirit of the event, this usually goes to the poor sod who's bonnet has been up all day , who's wheels fall off or for some reason comes to the attention of the judges for all the wrong, or sometimes all the right reasons!! :D

Awards will be presented by our VIP guests and won't necessarily be won by the most highly restored cars, but the ones me and Mark would most like to take home!

Afternoon track session commences at 1.30 and will finish at 5pm.

Don't forget all donations on the day go to Cancer Research UK. The wonderful John and Jan (plus others) will be shaking their buckets on the entrance to the paddock so please give generously!

Pete & Mark
I really enjoyed my visit last year but unfortunately I can't be there this year. Pete, if you take your Radford I will be so upset as I am so keen to see it "as is" !
Anyway the real point of my post is to ask how those who are unable to attend can contribute to the very worthy charity you are supporting.
Hope all goes well. "Vanping - Mark."
Cliff

Hi Cliff,

Sorry you won't be able to make it this year.

Regarding the charity, no doubt we will be setting up a Just Giving page like last year, details of which will be published shortly. We all like this method of giving as it costs less than most others & is totally transparent.

Sorry for the slow response on this, I have been getting my ducks in a row. I can help out with the yellow bib work as required. I should be there for just after 9am, drop me a text or give me a call on 07984 155650. I'm happy to just take instructions that way.
