Did you say that you wanted the code for TR1?

This could be tricky as Tartan Red 1 & 2 are both BMC Code RD9

I certainly don't have a modern code for TR1

Yes, you are right :) But as he is asking for the code (that doesn't say much) it is RD9 all the way through mini production. And as his mini is a 64 it should have a different paint blend........
I had my 64 S1071 painted in the older hue of TR. This was in 98 and at least here in Sweden the paintshop (think they used Glasurit) could get the pigment proportions right as they had two different RD9's :) The same goes for OEW :)

Different opinions as to when the change over was from no.1 to no.2, I would like someone have a comparison between the two, or to which modern 'RD9' is??

Thanks Mark,

Would the mix instructions found in this BMC booklet translate to modern paint types?

I'm looking to have some Tartan Red #2 paint made (for a '66 model year).

Same thing with the black color for the roof - there are a surprising number of shades of black when you flip through a modern paint brochure! :P

The difference between TR1 & TR2 is that the 2 is a little more "vibrant", with the TR1 looking a little more "Powdery" It is impossible to see the differences on a compy screen as the variation in screens is MUCH greater than the variation between the two tones.

For my money TR2 is a much nicer colour & is what most people think of a "Tartan red".

The ICI Code 3770, given in the link above is a modern-ish code that most paint suppliers will be able to cross reference.

I thought this was pinned down to late '67?

That's what I believed also, but people say otherwise. I have a '66 so would like to know which one!
