1071 S gearbox casing numbers
Checking my facts here...I know the 1071 S came from the factory with a 22G190 gearbox casing, but did they ever have the 22G333 casing? The bible suggests only the 970 and 1275 S used the 333 but I could have sworn I read elsewhere later 1071s used the 333.
I've done a search on here and it hasn't turned up conclusive proof of either.

Re: 1071 S gearbox casing numbers
there is a long thread here from the MCR........ may shed some light!
http://forum.minicooper.org/forum/mk1-c ... ng-numbers
or, this really useful link on mk1!
http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk/gearboxes.pdf
so many variations for virtually every detail that nothing ever seems conclusive when researching mini coopers and s's

Yes late 1071,s and probably later 970,s all used a 22G 333 case .
But don,t ask me when they changed

Re: 1071 S gearbox casing numbers
Thanks evonaut, I have several versions of the table with gearbox parts and none of them list a 333 box on a 1071, which is why I asked on here. The MCR thread does seem to concur with 251ENG that some 1071s came with 333 casings.
Thanks

1071s had varios boxes fitted throughout their production run. To begin with they had 22G68 boxes which were ground out to take the throw of the different crank. After that the more common 22G190 was used. At the end of the production run the 22G333 was used.

My car compared to Parnell's book is less than 50# from the end

I'm having a similar discussion on the mcr . My mk1S made in the last two weeks of production . Should it have a 1522 or 333 . .... Ken

Interesting, I've got a 22G68 box that was fitted to a 1071, and it has been ground out on the webs, I guess there's no way of telling if its a factory one?masnarda wrote:1071s had varios boxes fitted throughout their production run. Re: 1071 S gearbox casing numbers
No record was kept for the switch over for the box types. The 22G68 boxes that were used were the adapted boxes that were initially used for the regular Coopers. On the lefthand side on the front of the boxes on the flat surface there ought to be a number, this will refer to the type of engine it was meant for and what type of diff that was fitted.
The factory produced monotone black 1071 was also produced very near the end of production. It also has a 1522 box fitted going by memory. But to my knowledge that was fitted later in it's life.
Yet again it's quite like that the factory just used what they had available at that time.

Re: 1071 S gearbox casing numbers
OK so the first prototype cars used modified 997 22g68 boxes, I can believe that.
My 190 box that's original to my July 64 car also has the early laygear.
Anyone have later than July 9 64 with original trans still?
