Rosepetal Wheels, Do you know the manufacturer

Just what have I started! This has turned into a very interesting thread indeed. I had the wheels lightly blasted at the weekend and have posted pictures below, there are no signs of any markings on the wheels, apart from numbers stamped on the underside of the wheel each wheel, showing a stamped number 1,2,3,4 etc that is all one can see. Apart from that the wheels are in good condition, with some small areas showing signs of pourus casting. It is also interesting to hear what Nick Vortz had to say with regard to these wheels and I do agree with him they must have been done by a small outfit with limited resources, however one thing baffles me, why go to all the trouble of casting such items in such a small batch? When others where available from the likes of Cooper Car Co, Derrington, Vortz. Surely it could not have been cheap to cast these wheels. I really do hope we get to the bottom of this, as it seems i am not the only one whom is intrigued by these wheels. Keep the information flowing, someone somewhere must know who made these. On a side note, what lovely looking wheels rosepetals are!!

I still don't think Simon's wheels are original CCC mag Rosepetals.

Compared to the original wheel below there are differences in the composition of the alloy. The one below is magnesium. Also there are subtle differences with the centre boss hole. On CCC ones the internal bore is stepped quite close to the outer face whereas Simon's appear to be a uniform internal diameter from front to back.


They are very close though.

Maybe I´ve been to fast with ruling the Danish rims out, but I never read or heard about Danish rosepetals, except the 6x10" ones by Rytter before... Does any one have any information about other Danish makes?

There were some 4.75" ones cast in Denmark, a friend has a set on his Mk 2 S and there was a set for sale at the Danish IMM in 2007. They are certainly not magnesium as they are much heavier than the originals.

According to the owner "I recall an old photo of Erik Høyers first race Mini where Erik is stood next to the car on the old Roskilde Ring Circuit, circa 1965 - here the Mini racer is equipped with what looks to be the 4,75" Ole Rytter Rosepetals.

My thinking is that Erik Høyer and his mechanic Poul Heikendorff had the wheels copied from the original rosepetals manufactured in the UK."

I agree with ´S´type & Simon776 on this. The wheels you have Simon are 100% identical in the poor casting to the 6X10" on my car.
So they might be the same type .

I had known about them since August 2014, where I met the seller.
He saw my car, and said he had 2 wheels like that.
I saved them from ending on a garage wall, as airhose parking.

did you buy 4 and what are they going on?

No Steve, he only had 2.
I will use both on the WP/JanSpeed Mini, together with the 2 best ones, I have on the car, and make a matching spare wheel.

I have 5 of 4.5x10 and 2 6x10 of the Danish Ole rytter wheels, and a set of genuine 4.5 magnesium.

The Danish ones are very heavy, and the magnesium very corroded.

Where did you get yours from Simon ?, the stainless wheelnuts look exactly like a set i did some 20 years ago

So its on, the wheels I had on the car, are now getting their edges & centers skimmed in a Lathe.

Next they will be polished, and the spokes painted Black.

Those are Vortz wheels, with the CCC stamping mid 80's to early 90's, it looks like someone's enlarged the centre hole to get them on a balancer

Yes . thought about doing the same, its not easy to get them balanced.

I would say the wheels are most certainly mag, the cast finish with its porous holes look identical to the 12" rose petals from the Arden car, I have worked on a few early cars (not mini's) with mag wheels and this seems to be a indication.
And most probably original CCC wheels.

My tyre guy had me order some bushes to fit in the bolt holes, to enable him to fit them to their tool for Citroen wheels.
