Its the little BMC rosette that makes all the difference.

That is interesting, I bought one about a year ago from Wisconsin for $29 plus shipping. I had a new Austin horn push.

It's the tags that people are bidding on.

Not only the tags but also the bodies which don't have a vacuum advance unlike 997 and 998 carbs (which have one on the left hand carb body as viewed from the front of the car)...

All the original S carbs that I've got do have the vacuum take off on the left one. And they are def originals, but I think this topic has come to discussion quite a number of times now.

I would agree with you but if you look closer, the carbs do have the take off (RH carb).

850 carbs have the take off on 'the left carb' as it's the only body they have, original paired twin SUs (based on the AUC1342 & AUC870 bodies) have the take off on the the right hand carb and not on the left. All original S pairs I've come accross so far (dirty, untouched, with tags) didn't have any take offs, but I'm sure there must be exceptions. However those take offs had to be covered/blanked. How?

Still there, something wrong with the link in Mark's post the one above still works

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/mk1-1963-mini ... 20ddf58ac3

suspect shill bidding surely, if this is a indication of how much a hard up mini shell is worth the world has gone mad lol
